Last Spring Break – the whole family went to Japan for a vacation. Remember when I wrote before how Japan has always called my soul? Well, my soul finally answered the call.
And man – it was everything I imagined it to be and more. I cried when we landed on our first day, cried when we started walking the streets of Tokyo, cried when our plane took off on our last day.

Those who totally know me, know that I’m not really a huge fan of Valentine’s. 😅 Of love, yes – since I’m a romantic at heart and I believe that love should be celebrated every day and not just once in a year. But I don’t begrudge those that celebrate it. Valentines, after all, is a day to celebrate all kinds of love. I still like seeing couples become extra lovey-dovey during this time or even families and little kids expressing love to their parents and siblings. It’s still a nice feeling. 😊
Just this late morning, my 4-year old little boy came home from his speech therapy and asked me first thing when he walked in the door, “Mommy, is today Valentines?” I answered yes and then, without preamble – he hugged me tight and said in a loud voice, “I love you, Mommy!” Continue reading “One Long Stemmed Rose”
It’s been a while… 👀😶
I know. I know. I really have no one besides myself to blame for not updating this site or writing anything in it or posting photos and such. Been busy being a momma on most days and fixing our lives, so to speak. 😅
But hey – on a good note, a novel that I’ve been rewriting and editing is already finished and is now going through the process of being proofread and beta read by a good writer/editor friend of mine. I am hoping to get it published by the beginning of March, if all goes well.
Also – I’m in the process of writing a new novel too with another good author friend, who is also my soul sister. This one – we’re hoping to be done writing by April so we could perhaps get it published by May. Continue reading “Hello. Testing. 👀”
So this has been a long time coming. I said way back that I was going to post the food photos that I took when we were vacationing in the Philippines during the summer. But then – too many things happened for the past days that this has been put in the back burner for quite some time. 😅
But anyway – here they are. Better late than never right? All of them are on my Instagram feed, actually. But I’m posting it here in a slideshow for those that haven’t seen them yet. 🤗
As you well can see from the photos – food in the Philippines is the bomb. But that could be since I grew up with these foods. They’re what you might call – my comfort food given that they remind me of my childhood and how I lived when I was back in the Philippines. Biases aside though – I would really love for you to try Filipino foods. Even the ones that are American or Japanese but made in the Philippines. Most of the Filipino delicacies are really delicious.
And of course – nothing can beat Jollibee for me. Ever.
So I finally was able to go through the photos that I took of my friend, Salve, and her beautiful family. These were taken last December 2016 when they came here for a visit in Boise. And with the winter and snow as a backdrop, who could resist an impromptu family photo shoot? 😍😍😍
Who could resist those chinky eyes and chubby cheeks? 😍 I fell inlove with this little one that I had to just lie on the floor with her and take this photo 💛
Email me at firstname.lastname@example.org if you have queries about this or if you simply want to chat. ☺️
I’m excited to be working on my photography again this week. I had a shoot with a good friend of mine last Christmas. She asked me to take portraits of her beautiful family with the Idaho winter as backdrop. 💛
I’m just able to go through all my photos of them this week and I’m hoping to get everything edited and finished by next week. I need to work double time this weekend then so I could finish everything. 😅
I’ll post the finished product under my photography portfolio here once I’m done. But for now, here’s a preview of what I’ve been working on so far. ☺️
PORTFOLIO MODEL SHOOT
Abercrombie / American Eagle Style as requested by model
Photos by: Ruth Medina-Ilasco
Location: El Matador State Beach, Malibu, CA
Shot using Nikon D40, 50MM and 55MM Lens
Lighting: Natural with California Sunbounce as needed
ISO 100 for most of the shots
Minor PP using CS5 only
These are photos that I randomly shot from the year 2006 to 2011 all using my trusty Nikon Camera (yes, my camera is that old. I know I need to replace it but…).
I don’t remember most of my settings here (although I would be able to tell if I study each photo hard enough, lol) and most of my ‘models’ were either my own family or set of friends. Well, there are a couple of celebrities in there but they were friends (or rather acquaintances/workmates) when I took their shots. Hehe.
Anyway – enjoy! 🙂
