6:00AM. Monday.

“Good morning! What can I get for you today?” the barista at the usual coffee shop he goes to, asked.

She’s new. He sleepily thought as he yawned and scratched his ear, taking note of how lovely her smile was despite the dreary snowy, cold weather outside.

“You’re new,” he voiced out his thoughts before chuckling embarrassedly. “Sorry – I must not be fully awake yet.”

“That’s all right! Yes, I’m new – just started today actually. My name is Mia. What can I get for you today?” she replied, her chipper voice making him slightly smile unawares.

“I’ll have my usual cafe latte please, skimmed milk, less foam. Make it extra hot.”

Mia nodded before asking, “Would that be a tall or a venti?”

He was running late, cursing under his breath as he raced towards the stairs going down the train subway. Why today of all days his car decided to die on him, he couldn’t fathom. Today – when he had that meeting he asked his secretary to schedule in an hour that would bring in millions to his company.

The Exact Day

I don’t really remember the exact day
Of when I fell for you.
But I do remember the first time
You smiled at me,
Eyes wide and shining;
That shy smile that changed
My world.

I don’t remember the exact day
When I realized I was already yours.
But I do remember that time
You first reached out to me,
And I held your hand in mine tightly,
And sparks simply flew around.
I knew then that I wouldn’t
Let you go.

I don’t remember the exact day
When you realized you were mine.
But I do remember that one time
When our lips first touched.
When you shuddered in my arms,
And I took your silent gasp,
And sealed our forever.

Now we’re both here,
Standing in front of each other
Standing in front of these people
Standing in front of a million others.
And this — This I will remember,
This exact day as we both say,
“I do… I will love you forever.”
